Are you looking for a heartwarming and simple casserole that is perfect for the colder days? Then this sauerkraut casserole with Potato Anders is an absolute must! It is a classic dish, full of flavor, and you can easily give it your own twist. Here I share my favorite version of this sauerkraut casserole, but feel free to consist of with ingredients that you like.
What do you need?
- 1 jar Potato Other (flavor of your choice, for example natural or garden herbs)
- 1 bag of herb sauerkraut from Albert Heijn (of course you can also choose plain or sauerkraut with bacon)
- 300 grams onions , chopped
- 500 grams of minced meat (half and half ground beef)
- 1 bag of grated cheese (for example young matured)
- Double pack of pre-cooked potato slices from Albert Heijn
- Optional: bacon strips as an extra addition
- Spices to taste (e.g. pepper, salt, garlic powder, paprika powder)
Preparation method:
-
Preparation: Preheat the oven to 200 degrees (convection). Grease an oven dish with a little butter or oil.
-
Frying minced meat and onions: Heat a little oil or butter in a pan and fry the onions until translucent. Then add the minced meat and fry until crumbly. Season the minced meat with herbs such as pepper, salt and paprika powder. If you want to add bacon, you can fry it now for an extra savoury flavour.
- Prepare sauerkraut: Remove the herb sauerkraut from the packaging and even let it drain. You can use the sauerkraut immediately. Add the drained sauerkraut to the minced meat and onion mixture. Stir everything well and let it simmer on low heat, even, so that the flavors can mix well.
- Add Potato Anders: Gently stir the Potato Anders into the minced meat and sauerkraut mixture. Let it simmer for a few more minutes on a low heat.
- Layering: Start with a layer of the minced meat/onion/potato mixture. Place a layer of pre-cooked potato slices on top. Sprinkle a little grated cheese over this layer. Repeat this process until all ingredients are used up. Finish with a layer of the minced meat mixture.
- Finish with cheese: Sprinkle grated cheese over the raised layer. For extra flavor, you can grate liquid Parmesan cheese over the dish.
- Baking: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake the sauerkraut dish for about 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is dissolved.
- Serving: Remove the dish from the oven, let it rest for a few minutes, and serve immediately.
- Enjoy this creamy and complete sauerkraut dish with a crisp cheese layer!
- The minced meat can also be replaced with vegetarian minced meat.
